Justin Robie Wood

Creator of Ghost Arcade

I started doing live visuals in 2008. My first gig was a scrappy two-projector setup, one running MilkDrop visualizations and the other playing the Planet Earth documentary on loop. Watching it work but knowing there had to be a better way, I went down the rabbit hole of VJ software and eventually projection mapping.

By 2010 I was building festival-scale installations and projection-mapping my own paintings, work that grew out of my training under Jack Whitten and Michael Goldberg at the School of Visual Arts. Eventually mapping pulled me out of the concert circuit and into gallery installations, then into the open desert, projecting onto the landscape itself.

Ghost Arcade is the tool I wish I’d had on tour. It’s the software version of the rig I’ve been running for over fifteen years.
