You are hiring the people who wrote the renderer.

Most studios integrate someone else's tool. If a show needs something the software cannot do, we change the software. The 2.0 render core is Rust on wgpu, written in house, and there is no vendor to wait on.

Everything is under AGPL-3.0, which matters commercially: anything built for your project can be inspected, kept and maintained by anyone you choose afterwards. There is no lock-in to buy your way out of later.
